Prayag of Uttarakhand

Every year millions of tourists and pilgrims visit the five Prayag of Uttarakhand. The famous Panch Prayag Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Nandaprayag, and Vishnuprayag of Uttarakhand are located at the confluence of the Ganges River and its main tributaries.

This confluence of rivers is considered very sacred not only in Uttarakhand but also in India and abroad. Especially because rivers are considered as the form of Goddess in our Hindu religion.

After the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati in Prayag, Uttar Pradesh, the confluences of the tributaries of the Ganges River in the Garhwal-Himalayan region of Uttarakhand are considered to be the most sacred, as Ganga, Yamuna, and their tributaries originate from here. The places where they have confluence are considered to be major pilgrimages. This is where the rituals of Shraddha (श्राद्ध) are performed.

What is Prayag?

Prayag has generated all the pilgrimages of the world, Prayag is not originated from other pilgrimages, that is why Prayag is called Tirtharaj. Now the question arises, why? The answer to this question is found in the seventh chapter of Patalakhand (पातालखण्ड) of Shri Padyapuran ( श्री पद्यपुराण). Verse seven states that just as the universe originates from the universe, the universe does not originate from the world, similarly other pilgrimages originate from Prayag.

Mythological statement about Prayag

Prayag is the oldest and best pilgrimage place in the world. Prayag, the confluence of white rivers, has been the penance for the gods, Rishi-muni, Sadhu- shant, sages, and householders for centuries. The Magh Mela is organized every year at the confluence of Ganga-Yamuna and the invisible Saraswati. This fair takes place when the sun enters the Capricorn sign. Here pilgrims from different parts of India gather for Kalpavas and bath.

Kamad and Mokshada (कामद और मोक्षद) are two types of pilgrimage. Those who fulfill the wishes of the pilgrimage are called Kamad Teertha. The pilgrimages that provide salvation are called Mokshada Teertha. Salvation is attained by liberation from desires. Those who wish to fulfill their desires do not get salvation because their desire is towards indulgence.

Prayag itself is one such pilgrimage, which is also Kamad and Mokshada. All the pilgrimages of the world are under it. That is why Prayag is a pilgrimage place. There are a total of thirty and a half crore pilgrimages in heaven, mantra, and patala Lokas. The king of all these pilgrimages is Prayag who gives both salvation and bhakti. Prayag Tirtha is served by the deity, muni, demons, etc. and when the sun is in Makarstha every Magha month, all pilgrimages and devas, Danuj, Kinnar, Nag, Gandharva gather in Prayag and bathe in the Triveni respectfully. Dev Danuj Kinnar Male Shrine. Best regards, Majjhi Sakal Triveni.
